Installation of Brakes and Rotors

There is nothing more important than a car’s ability to slow down and stop. The braking system of a car takes precedence over the acceleration. It is essential that the braking system is at its maximum performance level and the friction pad debt is efficient.

1. Lift the car with a jack and remove the wheel.

2. Remove the brake line from the strut. Remove at this time so they will not break when you start to remove other parts. Remove the lower caliper bolt. It is 14 mm long.

3. Lift caliper up, remove it and secure it so it does not fall.

4. Remove the brake pads. Be sure to keep the metal clips that are holding the pad on, they will be reused.

5. Push the piston back into the caliper. The new brake pads will be thicker, so the piston needs to be pushed back in order to fit.

6. Remove the rest of the caliper. A 17 mm socket is needed for this.

7.Remove the brake rotor- sometimes a hammer is needed gently.

8. Place the new Rotor on. You should be able to slide it over the wheel stud.

9. Place back on the part of the caliper that you took off last.

10. Place the brake pads on.

11. Slide the caliper back over the rotor.

Once you have installed new brakes and rotors, it is important to test them on the road. Do not apply a lot of pressure to the brakes right away. Permanent damage may be caused to the linings or drums. The new brakes must be used in moderation for the first few hundred miles to ensure the proper installation.
